Pick an everyday shape
Choose a mug, a folded cloth or a piece of fruit. Look at its outline before making a mark. The purpose is to notice shape and proportion, not to produce an accurate illustration immediately.
Try three short versions
Draw the same object three times, changing your attention each time: outline, large areas of light and dark, then one detail. Keep the attempts together so you can compare what changed.
Write a useful observation
Add a sentence about something you noticed. A handle may be narrower than expected, or a shadow may join two shapes. These small observations make the page useful when you return to it.
